What is counselling, and how can it help me?
Counselling is a professional, collaborative process where a trained therapist helps you the individual to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It can provide support during difficult times, help you gain insights into personal issues, develop coping strategies, and promote emotional well-being.
How do I know if I need counselling?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, depression, uncertainty or life transitions, or if you’re struggling with relationships or self-esteem, counselling can be beneficial. If you find it hard to cope with daily life or if you’re seeking personal growth, consider reaching out to a counsellor.
What should I expect during my first counselling session?
In your first session, as the therapist, I will typically ask about your background, current concerns, and what you hope to achieve from counselling. This initial meeting is also a chance for you to ask questions and determine if you feel comfortable working together with me and with the process.
How long does counselling take?
The duration of counselling varies based on individual needs and goals. Some people may find relief after a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term support. We will work together to create a timeline that suits your situation. Each session is 50 minutes.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes, counselling sessions are confidential. As a therapist, I adhere to strict ethical guidelines set out by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) to protect your privacy. There are a few exceptions, such as if there’s a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, but these situations are discussed openly in sessions. How do I choose the right coach for me?
Look for a coach whose expertise aligns with your goals, whether that’s career, life, executive or therapeutic coaching. Consider their qualifications, coaching style, and experience. It can be helpful to schedule a preliminary session to assess compatibility and ensure you feel comfortable with their approach. My main focus incorporates therapeutic coaching which considers you as a whole and not just your goals.
